Videos in help pages
Play supported videos in help pages, see where they work, and know what Markdown versions link to.
Video sources
Help pages can include videos from YouTube, Vimeo, or Bilibili, as well as clips hosted at an HTTPS address.
| Source | ID or address and playback |
|---|---|
| YouTube | An 11-character video ID; plays in YouTube’s privacy-enhanced player |
| Vimeo | A numeric ID of 1 to 12 digits; plays in Vimeo’s player with Do Not Track enabled |
| Bilibili | A BV ID starting with BV1 followed by nine more characters; plays in Bilibili’s player without autoplay |
| Hosted clip | An HTTPS address; plays in the browser’s video player |
Cactus checks provider IDs before playback. An invalid ID or a hosted clip address that isn’t HTTPS produces no video.
Watch videos
You can play help-page videos in Cactus’s Docs, the Help Center, and Messenger. In Messenger, a video appears in the page section that contains it, using the same player as web help pages and Docs.
Provider videos play in the provider’s player, which loads when its section is near the screen.
Hosted clips use the browser’s player with playback controls. The clip isn’t fetched until you play it.
A hosted clip can have an optional poster image. It must use an HTTPS address and appears before playback.
A video’s caption is its own title. When it has a title, the caption appears under the video; without a title, there’s no caption.
Markdown versions
In a Markdown help page, each video is a link to where it plays. The link uses the video’s caption as its text; without a caption, Markdown shows the bare address in angle brackets. Provider videos link to their provider’s watch page. If a video can’t play because its ID or address is invalid, it produces no Markdown output.
