## Find pictures

Under **Pictures Cactus found** on **Settings › Imports**, you’ll find pictures from imported Help Center articles and public repositories.

If Cactus hasn’t found any pictures, the page says, “No pictures yet. Import a help center or read your repositories.”

In **Settings › Imports**, select **Read pictures from your repositories** to read pictures from connected repositories.

*In Settings › Imports, select Read pictures from your repositories to read pictures from connected repositories.*

> This button appears when repositories are connected and Cactus hasn’t read a repository picture yet. It’s hidden once a repository picture is listed.

Cactus reads pictures only from public repositories. If Cactus skips a repository, it lists a reason, such as the repository not being public, GitHub asking Cactus to wait, or GitHub not responding. To add someone else’s public repository, fork it into a GitHub account connected to Cactus, then pick the fork.

## Check a picture’s source

The source details tell you where a picture came from.

| --- | --- |
| Help article | The article’s title and the date it was read or last changed. |
| Repository | The repository source and the date Cactus read it. |

## Choose pictures

In **Settings › Imports**, select **Keep** or **Drop** beside a picture. **Keep** makes it available for a later page write; **Drop** keeps it out of later page writes.

A picture found in more than one imported article is listed once, and **Keep** or **Drop** applies to every copy. A dropped picture appears dimmed with a **Keep** button; a kept picture has a **Drop** button.

Only kept pictures from imported Help Center articles are eligible for generated pages. Pictures from repositories aren’t offered to the page writer. Each section can have at most two pictures. Cactus copies each chosen picture once into its image storage and places it after the matching block in the section. Only PNG, JPEG, WebP, and GIF files are copied. If the named block isn’t in the section or Cactus can’t copy the picture, it isn’t placed, and the next write tries again.

## Page rewrites

A rewrite chooses pictures again from retained imported Help Center pictures. A section held fixed during a push keeps its existing pictures and words; only live sections rewritten by the write have imported-picture placements saved, after the sections are committed.

If a rewrite chooses a picture again, it can move to the section and position chosen for that write. A picture no longer chosen for a rewritten section is removed from that page, while pictures in untouched sections stay. If a section is removed, its imported pictures are deleted rather than left waiting; pictures you placed yourself are set aside and can be placed again from your list.

If you remove a picture from a page by hand, the writer won’t choose it again on that page.

## Remove an imported picture

In **Settings › Imports**, under **Pictures Cactus found**, select **Drop** beside the picture.

Dropping a picture applies to every copy across the imported articles, deletes its active placements from generated pages, and prompts each affected page to be projected again. The picture stays in the list, dimmed, and dropping it doesn’t remove it from its source. Select **Keep** to make it available again; that won’t change any page until a later page write chooses it.
